Final Report 9 March 2017

R+T Turkey - A further rise in internationality
Istanbul is the ideal location for visitors from Eastern Europe, North Africa and
the Middle East Some 5,000 visitors (2015: 7,021 visitors) attended the third R+T Turkey in Istanbul from 1 to 4 March, the international trade fair for roller shutters, doors/gates and sun protection systems.
Despite the current situation in Turkey and the associated drop in visitors numbers, R+T Turkey reinforced its position as the industry’s international platform with 36% of exhibitors from abroad (2015: 29%).
“It was to be expected that we would also feel the impact of the current situation in Turkey. However, in our opinion, the attractiveness of this business location will remain for some time to come. Our aspiration over the next couple of years will be to make the R+T Turkey ‘package’ even more attractive and to offer visitors every more themes,” explains Ulrich Kromer, CEO of Messe Stuttgart. A. Cahit Dinçer, Vice-President of the Turkish Association for Awnings and Industrial Textiles (TBUD) stresses: “Every cloud has a silver lining. The market will find its way. We are confident that, in the course of this, the importance of trade fairs will continue to rise. Quality assurance and the training of young talent will be defining issues for our members over the next few years.” A rise in the internationality of exhibitors Out of the 104 exhibitors, the number of exhibitors from abroad rose by 7% over the previous event. Apart from 66 Turkish exhibitors and a shared German stand, companies from Belgium, Italy, China, Korea and the Ukraine also exhibited.
Steve Choi, Sales Director of Xera Co. Ltd. (Korea), summarises: “We exhibit at
R+T Turkey because we would like to meet our customers from the Middle East
and Eastern Europe. This time we even had visitors from Kyrgyzstan and Georgia on our stand, which was a positive surprise for us. Overall, R+T Turkey is just the right location for us to reach our customers.”
Carsten Brüns, Sales Director at sundrape GmbH (Germany), justifies his
company’s participation on the German Pavilion as follows: “In our view is it
important to be represented in the large Turkish market as an own-brand
company, as there is a lot of construction work going on here. Turkey is also the
gateway to the world – we also operate throughout the entire region, for instancein Dubai, Kuwait and the other Emirates. Turkey is the ideal central point and so the concept of R+T Turkey totally resonates with us.”
The importance of the international visitors is also an important factor for Turkish
exhibitors to attend R+T Turkey. Uğur Çelik, Managing Director of Semsiye Evi
(Turkey), reports as follows: “Half of the visitors to our stand were international,
mainly from Iran, Dubai, Lebanon, Greece and the Balkan states. And our Turkish
customers, particularly from hotels on the Turkish coastal region, also visited us.
Given the current economic situation, our expectations about the trade fair were
even exceeded.”
Persuasive visitor quality R+T Turkey has established itself with both exhibitors and visitors, despite the
difficult current situation: over half of the visitors (55%) were once again attending R+T Turkey and 88% already plan to return in 2019. The visitors appreciate the important impact the trade fair has on the industry: 81% are confident that the importance of the event will continue to grow for the sector.
Of particular note is the consistently high quality of trade visitors: 77% of visitors hold executive management, company management or operational management positions within their companies and 70% are involved in procurement decisions.
The main regions from which the foreign visitors (17%) originated were North
Africa (Morocco, Tunisia), the Middle East (Israel, Jordan, Lebanon) and Eastern
Europe (Romania, Ukraine, Bulgaria) and Russia.
Other exhibitor opinions:
James Lee, Sales Manager of Sambotex (Korea):
“We came here to obtain information about Turkish suppliers and the industry and to familiarise ourselves with the market and its prices. We held discussions with Turkish representatives but are conscious that our prices are higher than those of Turkish products. So we will just have to wait until Turkish customers buy our high-quality products.
We will return to R+T Turkey in 2019 because this is a particularly attractive
market for us. Apart from forging contacts with customers, we also gain a wealth
of interesting information about how to evolve our products at every event.”
Vadym Varvarovskyi, Wholesales Manager at masterlux (Ukraine):
“We exhibited for the first time at R+T Turkey and are really very satisfied with the organisation and contact with the event organiser. We have met far more future customers than we expected and we definitely plan to attend once
more in 2019.
One reason for taking part was also to show that Ukrainian industry is still
functioning and active and that we really have producers and not just buyers. R+T Turkey was the initial spark for our international marketing strategy and we are hoping for a real boost after the trade fair. That’s why we intend to attend R+T in Stuttgart as well.”
Yongshin Lee, Director of Dongwon Tex (Korea):
“We had lots of visitors but naturally not every one was a relevant customer for
our products. We attend R+T Turkey every time because we are convinced of the R+T concept – on a global scale. We will be exhibiting in Stuttgart in 2018 and also at R+T Asia in Shanghai. We follow R+T everywhere!”
Mr. Murat Kulaz, Export Sales & Marketing Director at Eymes (Turkey):
“Overall we were very satisfied with the trade fair and the quality of visitors was
very pleasing. The measures put in place to attract customers from the Middle
East and the Arab world clearly worked. Nevertheless, in my opinion, is it still
necessary to attract more visitors from Europe and Africa to R+T Turkey.”
